On December 11, 2025, the Ethiopian Sustainable Food System and Agroecology Consortium (ESFSAC) convened the Women in Agroecology and Nutritious Food Systems Training Forum at Vibes Hotel & Spa, Addis Ababa.
Held under the theme “Women Nourishing the Future: Indigenous Foods, Agroecology Wisdom, and Food Culture Leadership,” the forum aimed to strengthen women’s knowledge, confidence, and leadership in agroecology-based nutritious food systems.
The main objective of the event was to build women’s capacities in indigenous foods, nutrition, value addition, and agroecology, while reinforcing their critical leadership role in shaping healthy, sustainable, and culturally grounded food systems. The training provided participants with practical skills, confidence, and a deeper understanding of nutrition sovereignty and food system innovation.
The forum was designed as an immersive learning and exchange platform, featuring engaging learning sessions, a strong panel discussion, group reflections, cultural food knowledge sharing, and a certificate ceremony. These interactive components created space for peer learning, experience sharing, and collective reflection among women practitioners and leaders.
Guided by the vision of a future where Ethiopian women are recognized as custodians of culinary heritage and architects of resilient food systems, the program blended:
- Technical learning rooted in agroecology principles,
- Indigenous food knowledge and its nutritional relevance,
- Women’s leadership and advocacy in nourishing communities, and
- Networking and collective empowerment.
Importantly, the forum marked a significant step in building a women-led agroecology and nutrition network, fostering continued collaboration, mutual support, and amplification of women’s voices within Ethiopia’s food and agroecology sector.
ESFSAC extends its sincere appreciation to all speakers, facilitators, and participants whose contributions made the forum meaningful and impactful.
