ESFSAC Participates in the “My Food Is African” (MFIA) Barefoot Guide Communication Strategy Development Workshop

November 5–7, 2025 | Nairobi, Kenya

The Ethiopian Sustainable Food Systems and Agroecology Consortium (ESFSAC) is proud to take part in the My Food Is African (MFIA) Barefoot Guide Communication Strategy Development Workshop, organized by the Alliance for Food Sovereignty in Africa (AFSA).

Following the successful development of Barefoot Guide Volume 2 – My Food Is African, this workshop marks the next crucial phase: developing a collective communication strategy that ensures wide dissemination, ownership, and long-term visibility of the guide across Africa and beyond.

The Barefoot Guide captures authentic African experiences, voices, and practices in food sovereignty and agroecology. To amplify its reach and impact, communication officers and leads from AFSA member organizations are coming together to co-create a shared communication plan and identify concrete actions each organization will take to promote the guide through their respective channels and networks.

Workshop Objectives:

  1. Co-develop a collective communication strategy and action plan for the My Food Is African Barefoot Guide.
  2. Strengthen participants’ skills in communication planning, storytelling, digital engagement, and media outreach.
  3. Design coordinated messaging, key visuals, and dissemination pathways for diverse audiences.
  4. Identify specific commitments and follow-up actions to amplify the My Food Is African campaign.

Expected Outcomes:

  • A draft communication plan with key messages, audiences, and timelines.
  • Defined roles and actions for each participating organization.
  • Enhanced communication capacity across AFSA members to align and amplify the My Food Is African narrative.
  • A stronger network of communicators promoting agroecology and food sovereignty across Africa.
  • Increased visibility for Barefoot Guide Volume 1, which will serve as a key learning tool during the workshop.

ESFSAC looks forward to contributing to this collaborative effort to celebrate and promote Africa’s rich food heritage, while amplifying the voices of communities championing agroecology and sustainable food systems.
