Everything ESFSAC does is anchored in a set of specific, action-oriented objectives. The Consortium advocates for policies that create enabling environments for agroecology, while campaigning for equitable access to healthy, safe, and culturally appropriate food. Its work challenges the industrial food model and instead uplifts alternatives that are rooted in ecological balance, social justice, and community resilience.
ESFSAC also strives to uphold agriculture as a dignified and viable livelihood. By promoting agroecological farming, the Consortium creates pathways for income diversification, particularly for youth and women. Its focus on resilience goes beyond production — it includes digital knowledge sharing, climate-smart practices, and systems that can adapt to economic, health, and environmental shocks.
Additionally, ESFSAC defends the legal rights of smallholder farmers and pastoralists, and advocates for the protection of indigenous seed varieties and livestock breeds. It works to secure their recognition not just as producers, but as knowledge holders and custodians of Ethiopia’s food heritage. These efforts are part of a broader vision to build a sovereign food future that reflects Ethiopia’s cultural identity, ecological wealth, and social values.
