The “My Food is African” campaign is a vibrant, pan-African movement dedicated to celebrating indigenous food cultures, promoting healthy diets, and fostering resilient food systems. Launched in 2022, this campaign transcends national borders to nurture pride and identity rooted in our diverse culinary heritage. It champions traditional foods as nutritional and ecological treasures, actively challenging globalised industrial systems that marginalise local food traditions.
In countries across Africa—such as Uganda, Zimbabwe, Kenya, and here in Ethiopia—the campaign is reinforcing food sovereignty and shaping policy decisions. Examples include Uganda’s integration of agroecology into national strategy, Zambia’s school food clubs, and Zimbabwe’s youth seed banks. These efforts build on real grassroots progress and reflect a continental wave of change.
By joining the ESFSAC, you’re contributing to a movement with both local resonance and continental momentum. Our campaign work in Ethiopia, under the “My Food is Ethiopian” banner, shares this wider mission: to revive healthy, culturally rooted diets, strengthen community ownership of food systems, and empower youth and women to claim their food future. Together, we’re restoring identity, dignity, and resilience—because food in Africa is not just for nourishment; it is our heritage, our culture, and our future.
