Ethiopian Sustainable Food Systems and Agroecology Consortium

Barefoot Guide – Launching Workshop

We’re thrilled to announce the successful launch of the Barefoot Guide at our workshop in Addis Ababa on October 26, 2024! This event, organized by the ETHIOPIAN SUSTAINABLE FOOD SYSTEMS AND AGROECOLOGY CONSORTIUM (ESFSAC) in collaboration with Women Can Do IT (WCDI), is a pivotal step in our TAFSProject, part of the broader mission by the Alliance for Food Sovereignty in Africa (AFSA).

The Barefoot Guide invites us on a journey through Africa’s vibrant farms, gardens, and kitchens, celebrating our rich culinary heritage. It aims to demystify healthy eating by drawing on the wisdom passed down through generations. As we say, “Nutrition is not good enough… Grandmothers are!”

Key Highlights from the Workshop:

  • Engaging discussions on African foods and their significance.
  • Introduction of the continental campaign: “My Food is African”.
  • Personal stories shared by participants about their favorite local dishes and childhood memories.
  • Insightful student activities focusing on health, nutrition, and organic African food.

We welcomed more than 50 participants, including students, parents, teachers, scholars, food and agroecology experts, agribusiness owners, entrepreneurs, and media personnel, all enthusiastic to learn and share. Together, we are cultivating a movement to reclaim our food culture and empower future generations to enjoy healthy, nourishing choices.

Join us in this journey towards sustainable food systems!
