This documentary video is brought to you by the Ethiopian Sustainable Food Systems and Agroecology Consortium (ESFSAC), in partnership with the Alliance for Food Sovereignty in Africa (AFSA) and the Agroecology Fund (AEF).
The documentary has been produced as part of ESFSAC’s initiative on Documenting Best Agroecological and Food System Practices in Ethiopia. The purpose of this documentation is to recognize and appreciate sustainable indigenous agroecological practices, learn from them, and support the scaling out of such practices to other areas where applicable.
Although the Konso soil conservation and landscape management practice has gained global recognition and has been registered as a World Heritage Site, little has been documented and shared about this long-standing agroecological and sustainable land management system locally. For centuries, Konso elders have passed their wisdom to younger generations, enabling the community to sustain and enhance productivity in a harsh environment and making the landscape both livable and resilient.
Our call to action: this outstanding indigenous practice deserves wider recognition and should be shared and replicated as part of ongoing land restoration and sustainable development initiatives.
We encourage ESFSAC members, partner CSOs, and other stakeholders to share this documentary widely, with due acknowledgement to ESFSAC and its partners.
